My House Is Your House
A generative cityscape for Detroit techno
My House Is Your House is an immersive audiovisual piece. A generative cityscape, drawn in the browser, answers the music in real time. It pays homage to techno’s origins in Detroit, and to the Belleville Three: Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson. It looks toward speculative futures through an Afrofuturist lens.
The picture is a retro aesthetic of 2D games: a classic arrangement of sprites, moving with simple animations. Here those animations are made responsive to the music itself. The music was generated by AI, inspired by the song “My House Is Your House.”
I made the prototype for Afrofuturism Week 2026, organized by the Center for Arts, Migration, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. The color palette comes from that week.
